Nature’s Gifts - 5 Non-Alcoholic Host/Hostess Gift Ideas

Alcohol is one of the easiest and universal things to bring to a get together to show gratitude to a host or hostess. Whether it be Thanksgiving dinner, housewarming bbq, or byob game night,  picking out the right bottle of something or other is a nice gesture.

I recently decided to change my lifestyle and become sober. Not only does this mean I don't drink alcohol I also don't buy it. I thought this would take some of the fun out of going to holiday parties or would leave me with few options for easy hostess gifts. I am grateful to discover that there are lots of enjoyable alternative beverages and alcohol-like gifts to bring. Not only for me (the non-drinker) but also for that special someone to feel thanked and appreciated for the hard work they put into having you over.

SEEDLIP - First off, let's pause on the design of the bottles. I am swooning... Seedlip is good for drinking as a mocktail AND mixed with alcohol so it’s an all around crowd pleaser. It’s a little more expensive than a good bottle of gin so it’s priced for the generous gifter.

BALSAMIC VINEGAR - I am a huge fan of a good balsamic vinegar. I usually buy mine from Trader Joes and it’s sufficient for everyday use, however the fancy stuff is a treat for sure! Bon Appetit has a wonderful article on the Best Balsamic Vinegars You Can Buy at the Grocery Store. If you ever find yourself wine tasting keep an eye out because a lot of wine tasting areas also have vinegar and olive oil tastings too. While you are picking up your holiday wine you can also pick up some fancy olive oil or balsamic vinegar for your favorite host or hostess!

SARSAPARILLA - Yum! If you’ve never enjoyed a good sarsaparilla you are missing out on one of the joys of life. It transports you to the wild west and is the perfect alcohol alternative drink in my opinion. I personally like Soux City and it’s likely you can find it at your local Bev Mo or grocery store. They also sell it on Amazon! Really any fancy root beer or sarsaparilla will do so don’t be afraid to get adventurous!

GINGER BEER - On the topic of soda like beverages Ginger Ale or Ginger Beer is another great drinkable alternative. You can get quite fancy with it and it settles your stomach if you are a nervous socializer like me. I don’t like my drinks too sweet so I like Spectacular Ginger Beer, however it is made to be a mixer so if you are looking for a soda as opposed to a more medicinal ginger flavor it might not be the right choice. Really… any pack of a mid-range ginger beer will be a great alternative to bringing alcohol.

HOMEMADE SIMPLE SYRUP - Simple syrup is great to mix with soda water, coffee, tea, or a spirit beverage and everyone likes a good homemade gift. I love this idea because you can really highlight the plants by placing a little piece of whatever flavor you decide to make in the bottle. Can never go wrong with the packaging of a clear bottle and a sprig of mint, rosemary, or lemon. Simple, thoughtful, and beautiful. Here is a very complete and easy to follow guide via IMBIBE Magazine for making your own simple syrup! Enjoy.
